Being a photographer is so much more than editing and physically snapping the photos; It's literally pausing life and creating moments we look back on for a long time.
The other day I had the privilege to photograph the Father Daughter Dance that Sunshine Community Church has hosted for the last 25 years. Events like this are why I love what I do.
This event was so sweet to be a part of. The dance was open to more than just dads and daughters as well. Many grandpas brought their granddaughters. A community coming together to fellowship as well as emphasize the importance of role models in these young girls lives.
When my roommate asked if I would photograph this event, I was all in. I've been so busy with school that I hadn't had my camera out for a while. There weren't any second thoughts. As we started shooting, we started with the butterflies. Since the dance was hosted at Frederik Meijer, we couldn't pass up the opportunity to see the beautiful butterflies. Shortly, guests started to arrive and the dancing began! Of course, the night wouldn't have been complete without the 'baby shark' song, (pictured below).

I wasn't prepared for the rush of emotion photographing this event would give me. I was out on the dance floor taking pictures and I caught a few moments that just made my heart melt. (below).

When I was 11 years old I lost my father. Photographing this event was such a special way to use the talent God has given me. It hurt a little inside catching these beautiful moments knowing I'd hardly experienced them myself. However, look at these moments these dads can look back on. I feel truly blessed that God has given me a photographic talent. He wasn't kidding when He said He uses all things for His good.
I love that Sunshine hosts this event for dads to be role models in their daughters lives. Dads are so important and I'm so happy I could be a part of this memorable evening.
